Bluetooth or airplay audio, how to choose the right one?

19/10/17

We are familiar with Bluetooth, but how about AirPlay? AirPlay is Apple’s own proprietary Wi-Fi dependant wireless platform, allowing users to stream digital audio or video content to other AirPlay supported devices.

There are distinct advantages and disadvantages to both AirPlay and Bluetooth. Despite both frequently being used for wireless streaming, Bluetooth and AirPlay actually operate using completely different technologies.

Maybe the most noticeable difference between the two is that AirPlay offers the capability to stream video. Unlike Bluetooth, which connects directly between devices, AirPlay creates a connection by “piggybacking” on your home Wi-Fi network.

As one of Apple patented technology, AirPlay is only available for use from OSX devices, Mac and IOS devices, while Bluetooth which works across a much wider range of devices made by a huge number of manufacturers.

It’s hard to say which one is better. Like many things, it all comes down to personal taste of the individual. To give a further explanation of the two, we thought we would outline their pros and cons.

Airplay pros:

  • Airplay has the capability of playing across a much larger distance between devices than Bluetooth.
  • Airplay uses lossless compression, but anything streamed over Bluetooth uses lossy compression.
  • Aireplay offers direct communication between the IOS device and the Airplay speaker, including volume control.

Airplay cons:

  • Airplay devices have to be networked.
  • Airplay is only available on Apple and a small number of other certified devices.

Bluetooth Pros:

  • Bluetooth is wildly used for gadget, like smartphone, tablet.
  • With the developing of Bluetooth technology, AAC and aptX is capable to provide high quality sound than Standard Bluetooth Codec.

Bluetooth Cons:

  • The two devices connected via Bluetooth need to be closed in 10-15 meters.
  • The sound bluetooth streams is compressed with lossy.

Most feadphones Mixcder provide are supported Bluetooth function, such as HD601 (NFC Bluetooth headphones), MS301 (aptX low latency Bluetooth headphones), PRO911 (bluetooth sport headphones).

Bluetooth or Airplay, which one do you prefer?

Watching TV without Disturbing family Members with bluetooth Transmitter and receiver

12/10/17 ,

Bluetooth headphones are currently all the rage. Besides the comfort provided by their wireless connection, they also offer good audio quality thanks to the apt-X codec. They operate with a wide variety of compatible sources such as smartphones, tablets or laptops. Only TVs are missing from this range of compatible sources as very few models offer wireless Bluetooth connection. Those that do are often limited to being paired with a mouse and keyboard to facilitate the use of Smart TV features.

To fill that gap, Mixcder, who manufactures wireless audio devices, offers two products – the Mixcder TR008 and the Mixcder TR007. These names, which don’t sound very catchy, are in fact attributed to two different wireless Bluetooth audio transmitters, enabling the sound from a TV or any audio source to be diffused to a set of Bluetooth headphones or a wireless Bluetooth speaker.

The Mixcder TR007 wireless Bluetooth audio transmitter is specifically designed for TVs. Highly compact and very easy to set up, it is powered using the TV’s USB port and is connected to the TV’s headphone output. Simply choose the pairing mode to automatically connect the transmitter. It also operates with a wireless Bluetooth speaker.

The Mixcder TR008 is also powered via the USB port and can even be connected directly to the mains (USB power cable and mains adapter supplied). It operates like the Mixcder TR007 model but it has a wider range of connectors (analog mini-jack and coaxial and optical digital inputs), thus enabling it to be used with both analog and digital sources. It can also be simultaneously paired with two sets of wireless Bluetooth headphones. It is compatible with the apt-X codec, which offers improved performances in relation to the standard SBC codec and therefore offers a level of reproduction quality similar to that of an audio CD when used with compatible Bluetooth headphones and speakers.

Picking Out The Right Bluetooth Headphone for Music via Headphone Specs-Frequency Response

05/09/17 ,

What do you care about when picking up a new set of over ear headphones? Some factor like the look and comfort are personal preference. Headphones specifications are a surprisingly complicated business. Today I’m going to explain headphone frequency response, and tell you how to identify the best headset via headphone spec.

Frequency response indicates the range of audio frequencies the headphones can reproduce. It’s measured in Hertz, with the lowest number representing the amount of bass, and the highest treble. Most headphones have a stated frequency response of around 20-20,000Hz, which matches that of human hearing.

The numbers are not really a good indicator of sound quality, though they can help you choose the right headphones for a particular type of music. For instance, if you want lots of bass, then you should look for headphones that support a low bass frequency.

Learn to read headphone frequency response graphs

let’s go over understanding headphone frequency response graphs. Often times reviewers use graphs to illustrate how great or poor is. You can better understand how well the wireless and wired headphone may perform by understanding how to read the graph. Again, this is not the only indication of how good a headphone is.

In theory, the line on a frequency response graph should be relatively flat line since the range demonstrates the headphone’s ability to reproduce all frequencies equally. A “natural sounding” headphone is said to be slightly higher in the bass between 40Hz and 500Hz. That’s where bass instruments and deep male vocals live, remember?!

If the line on the graph is slightly higher on the left side that means the headphones produce sound with more bass response. If the right side of the graph is higher than the left, that means the wireless headphones have a greater response in the mid, highs, and treble. That headset would be considered bright.

Bluetooth headphones have to compensate for the drivers being so close to the ear in the highs, so the highs are “rolled-off” and illustrated by a gradual sloping flat line from 1kHz to about 8-10dB down to 20kHz. In addition, small spikes at higher frequencies are normal as that is due to reflection cancellations in the folds and ridges in the outer part of the ear. But, sharp spikes in frequency (peaks and deep valleys) over 3,000Hz or so are indications of when the headphone sounds harsh.

So much for frequency response, please continue to follow next blog about headphone impedance.
